Gary Oldman provided an update that James Bond fans had been waiting for since Daniel Craig exited the franchise. According to the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban alum, his Slow Horses co-star, Jack Lowden, has already been picked for the role. Amazon MGM has not announced it yet.

If that is indeed true, it seems that Amazon MGM is going to stay quiet a little longer. Steven Knight, who is currently penning the script for the next Bond film, appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Today show and categorically denied any comment on the matter of who might have been cast as the new 007. Regarding the matter, he said, “I cannot speak about this subject. Much as I would dearly love to.”

Gary Oldman’s comments added fuel to the search for the next Bond

According to reports, James Bond auditions were held during August, and actors who were shortlisted had already been tapped by the producers and director Denis Villeneuve. Gary Oldman’s comments have only intensified fan speculation. Steven Knight’s refusal to comment has fans believing that Oldman’s confidence in his co-star might be displaced. However, all that is known is that Knight, like most people who are part of the production, is unable to speak on the matter. This is likely due to an official mandate.

However, thanks to Knight’s interview, it is known that an actor has indeed been cast. On the Today show, he was asked about how he approached Bond’s character. He was also grilled to whether he was privy to the casting of Bond, or if he focused more on the character. To this, he said, “It does make life a little bit easier if you know who that person is, but also you have to write the character, not the actor.” When probed further about whether he knew who was playing the character, he simply said, “I’ll refer you to my previous answer.”
