Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is set to be released on July 25, 2026. The upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel movie will drop on Paramount+, as opposed to a theatrical release date as previously planned. It was originally planned to be released on October 9, 2026, before Paramount’s surprising announcement earlier this month.
The most plausible explanation behind this early July release ties directly back to April’s leak controversy. A full high-definition leak of the movie surfaced online. The leaker was arrested, but the movie was already making rounds on the internet by that time. However, this is not the confirmed reason behind the film’s earlier release and should be treated as speculation.

With Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender season two now streaming and animated films dominating the summer box office, an earlier release of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender could make strategic sense for Paramount. Sean Boelman of FW gave it a 7 and called it a “worthy successor” to the original animated series in our review of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender.

Paramount announced last December that the movie would be arriving on streaming, as a Paramount+ original (via Paramount+ Press). It was a disappointing update for many fans who were hoping to see Aang and his team take on the Fire Nation on the big screen.
It was also confirmed that the next chapter, Avatar: Seven Havens, is also planned as a streaming release. Jane Wiseman, the Head of Originals for Paramount+, shared in a statement:
The Avatar Universe has captivated audiences for two decades, and Paramount+ is proud to be the exclusive streaming home for its beloved animated incarnation. The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender and Avatar: Seven Havens represent the next evolution of storytelling from Avatar Studios — bringing together remarkable talent both in front of and behind the camera to deliver the epic adventures and emotional depth fans have come to expect.
Wiseman also added that the streaming releases aimed to solidify the platform as the destination for the animated Avatar Universe. The director and cast aren’t happy about the decision. Director Lauren Montgomery shared on her Instagram:
The recent decision to move us from theatrical to streaming might give the impression that the quality wasn’t sufficient, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. This movie deserves to be seen on a big screen!!!
However, Paramount moved ahead with their streaming plan. The movie will now stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. and other regions where the service is available. It will probably be made available through its partners in the other regions.
What Is Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender About?

Back in December, Paramount revealed that the latest Avatar: The Last Airbender animated film will focus on an adult Aang. The official logline of the movie appeared alongside the trailer, which read:
This new story in the Avatar universe sees Aang learn of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve.
The trailer of the movie showed an adult Aang and his friends after he helped stop the Hundred-Year War. While the whole world lives in peace and harmony, Aang isn’t happy and feels lonely as the last airbender in the world. It is then that he discovers Tagah, an ancient airbender. Aang believes that Tagah can help bring their airbender culture back to life.
We then see chaos as a group called The Denied wants to find a powerful staff that Aang and Tagah pursue, which, in the wrong hands, can upend peace. It is likely that Aang and Tagah turn against each other during this global quest.
Earlier, Paramount revealed that none of the original actors were returning. Eric Nam will voice the character of Aang, while Katara, Sokka, Zuko, and Toph will be voiced by actors Jessica Matten, Román Zaragoza, Steven Yeun, and Dionne Quan, respectively. Lauren Montgomery, Steve Ahn, and William Mata are co-directing the new Avatar movie.
