From cursed blades to universe-breaking swords, this list has range. Some entries are terrifying because of what they can destroy, others because of what they can do to your mind. Here’s how they stack up, starting from the bottom.
10. Kitetsu and Enma Are as Dangerous to Zoro as His Foes

Zoro’s swords in One Piece are cursed. Sandai Kitetsu is known for bringing bad luck or even death to anyone who isn’t strong enough to wield it, and Zoro tested that curse on himself before even buying it. Enma is even wilder. It drains Zoro’s own energy every time he swings it, meaning the sword is almost as much of a threat to him as it is to his enemies.
They land at the bottom because their power comes from unique mechanics and story weight, not actual destruction capability. Compared to everything above them, they’re more personal and small-scale, but still one of the most iconic weapons in anime.
9. Iserlohn Fortress – A Planet-Sized Cannon

Jumping very high in scale, Iserlohn Fortress, from Legend of Galactic Heroes, is basically a weapon the size of a small moon. Its main gun, the Thor Hammer, can wipe out entire space fleets in a single blast. It can actually be compared to Star Wars’ Death Star.
What makes it rank above Zoro’s swords is pure size and impact. It shapes the outcome of wars just by existing – as it basically showed the power of an entire galactic empire. However, most of its power is shown through strategy and dialogue instead of constant action. Its most famous moment isn’t even about firepower – it’s about outsmarting the people guarding it.
8. Dragon Sword Reid Can Break Physics Itself

Reinhard from Re:ZERO carries the Dragon Sword Reid that was passed down to him by his grandmother. Compared to Iserlohn, this weapon is way more hands-on. Once wielded, it can cut through anything, be it physical bodies, laws, or concepts. This sword plays a huge role in solidifying Reinhard’s rank as the strongest in the anime.
The only reason it doesn’t rank higher is that it comes with a huge restriction: the sword itself must deem the opponent worthy of fighting. Due to this, we rarely got to see the weapon being used in the anime.
7. Unicorn Gundam (NT-D System) – A Precognitive Berserker

Now we’re stepping into full mecha territory. Unicorn Gundam already comes packed with beam sabers and heavy firepower, but its real weapon is the NT-D System. Once it activates, the Gundam basically becomes a near-precognitive fighting machine, reacting to attacks before they even happen.
Compared to Reinhard’s sword, this is less about destructive power and more about tech merging with instinct to create something unstoppable. It ranks above the previous entries because we get to see this system in action constantly throughout Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.
6. Poor Man’s Rose – A Common Nuclear Bomb That Killed a God

This is one of the strongest weapons in Hunter x Hunter. Netero’s Poor Man’s Rose is a very small, low-cost, mass-producible nuclear bomb that managed to leave even Meruem, one of the strongest characters, in a near-death state.
Compared to Unicorn Gundam, this weapon was only used in a very desperate attempt. But it ranks higher because of what it actually accomplished. It’s the reason humanity won, and that too, in a very non-heroic way. This weapon is not about elegance and is more about sacrifice, since Netero basically uses it as his final move, activated right after his own death.
5. Spear of Longinus – The Strongest Biblical Weapon

Longinus is easily one of the most recognizable anime weapons. This spear is tied directly into the biggest mysteries of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and it’s powerful enough to pierce defenses that nothing else can touch. Compared to Poor Man’s Rose, it has way more mythological weight and is connected to the entire plot instead of just one moment.
It ranks above Netero’s weapon because its power feels almost limitless, tied to forces way bigger than any single fight. It drops below the top four, though, since most of its power is explained through lore rather than shown in constant action. Yet, it is iconic and relevant enough to rank this high.
4. Excalibur’s Job Is to Protect the Planet Itself

Excalibur, from Fate, is a divine, planet-scale weapon that isn’t even man-made, built for a purpose way bigger than winning duels. Its base form already unleashes a beam of light strong enough to level a city, but it doesn’t stop there. If all thirteen restraints of the Round Table are removed, the sword becomes strong enough to be able to protect the planet itself.
But the real reason it ranks this high isn’t just raw power. Excalibur is one of the most iconic weapons in anime as a whole, instantly recognizable even to people who’ve never watched the anime. It’s also tied directly to its wielder’s entire identity and backstory.
3. Death Note – A Name and Face Is All You Need

The Death Note from the anime Death Note rarely needs an introduction. The idea of this anime weapon is simple – write the name of a person while thinking about their face, and they will die in any manner you wrote. This means it is not just a weapon that can kill, but it can also manipulate people before their death, something that Light Yagami often did.
Since that is all the information the user needs about the victim, it automatically ranks this high. No matter if you’re wielding Excalibur to defend a planet or commanding Iserlohn to destroy one, if the user of Death Note has your name and face, you’re done. However, it doesn’t rank higher because of one flaw: it can kill one at a time.
2. Kyōka Suigetsu Can Win Wars Before They Start

Aizen from Bleach never has to swing his Zanpakuto; he just has to show it. Once someone has seen his Shikai, they will see what Aizen wants them to see, hear what he wants them to hear, and, in general, be in total illusion. Aizen was able to use this ability to fool multiple captains at once into nearly killing Hinamori, while they all thought they were attacking Aizen instead.
It ranks above the Death Note because it can manipulate many people at once, and it is unknown if the Death Note can work on any entity that is not human. However, Kyoka Suigetsu can. There is only one drawback: he has to show the victims his Shikai; otherwise, it won’t work.

At the very top, nothing really comes close to Ea from the Fate Franchise. This is a sword that cuts the fundamental laws of the universe itself when fully activated. Compared to Kyōka Suigetsu, Ea’s power isn’t limited; it’s about existing on a completely different level of destruction.
It’s rarely used, only because not many characters are strong enough to even see it, but every time it shows up, it instantly becomes one of the most talked-about moments in its franchise. Gilgamesh was able to kill a literal goddess by attacking her just once. It is also a weapon that cannot be comprehended, as by merely existing, it breaks the laws of the universe.
