Hermione Granger was surely every young male millennial’s first crush growing up. The way she first taught Harry Potter and Ron Weasley the spell, while coming out of nowhere in the train, had our hearts rush for the bookish witch. However, it was not always a dream of Emma Watson to share a stereotypical relationship with the JK Rowling character.
Interestingly, after her stint in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, Watson went on to pursue other roles that gave her identity a whole new definition, besides that of a “bookish girl” and Hermione. These were the movies, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which was released in 2012, and The Bling Ring, which came out a year later.
While Watson played an outgoing teenager in the 2012 Ezra Miller-starring outing, the actress took on a whole new character in The Bling Ring. She was shown to be surrounded by limelight and have an accent that Hermione would definitely hate.
A report by Bustle from 2016 states that the actress did not always wish to be Hermione, and how her real-life self shares similarities with the character. Talking to Paper magazine, Watson mentioned how, at first, being Hermione felt fascinating. However, she went on to add,
I was 10 or 11 when the first movie came out — I was trying to figure out what my own identity was, but I didn’t really have one yet. And I watch interviews that I did when the first movie came out and I was so lost! [Laughs] I would think, “What do young girls talk about? What do they say?” “I like going shopping and I have a crush on Brad Pitt.” And I had no idea who Brad Pitt really was! It makes me sad because I see this girl trying so much to fit in.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower also starred Logan Lerman as the lead, alongside Paul Rudd and others. In her 2013 film, Watson was seen alongside Katie Chang, Taissa Farmiga, the gorgeous Kirsten Dunst appraed for a cameo, and others.

In case you don’t know, it was back in 2016 that Watson, being a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, went on to launch an online feminist book club.
