In Gothic 1 Remake, picking between the Old Camp, New Camp, and Swamp Camp is a permanent choice. This fundamentally defines your quests, armor, and combat promotions. This choice will reverberate throughout your run and will require certain tips and tricks to master.
Each faction caters to a drastically different playstyle. These range from traditional spellcasting to sneaky thievery. Let’s know more about each one before deciding which one you should pick in Gothic 1 Remake.

Keep in mind that you can still visit rival bases and collect free daily items. However, joining a camp will automatically forfeit certain quests from the other factions. Here is what each group brings to the table:
Old Camp: This is the traditional RPG choice with a strict hierarchy and exclusive access to the castle. You start with Shadow Armor and can eventually graduate to become a powerful Fire Mage or Warder.
New Camp: Perfect for rebels who hate rules! This faction focuses on freedom, thievery, and Water Magic. You will wear the Bandit’s Dress, quickly master lockpicking for extra loot, and rise through the ranks as a Mercenary or Water Mage.
Swamp Camp: This highly immersive, cult-like group worships the Sleeper god and offers unique Templar magic. You get Novice Robes with less physical protection. Remember that you can bypass some of the camp’s strange training restrictions with well-placed bribes.
As expected, each Camp (faction) offers unique armors and weapons that suit players with distinct playstyles. Each of the three factions have their pros and cons, but the final choice has to be on what you want your Gothic 1 Remake experience to be.

In our opinion, you should join the Old Camp! It’s tailor-made for a classic, convenient playthrough that easily leads to a devastating full mage build.
On the other hand, if you prefer breaking rules, then your perfect home is the New Camp. It is a ridiculously fun, sneaky alternative that consistently rewards you with extra loot.
Meanwhile, the Swamp Camp is perfect if you are up for some weirdness. It should be your go-to if you’re craving a wildly eccentric, atmospheric experience, offering a totally unique hybrid of melee combat and quirky cult magic.
