Were screwed james cameron confirms avatar 3 continues the only true theme of all 10 movies
Spread the love

One common link across James Cameron‘s filmography has been his knack for pioneering industry-changing technology, and the Avatar movies are a major testament to it. Another common thread, which Cameron himself revealed, is that all his movies are cautionary tales, wrapped in these dystopian, sci-fi epics.

Another recurring thread is love that often triumphs over the impossible odds that his characters face in the movies (via Esquire).

I can’t deny it. All my films ultimately say the same thing: we’re screwed. But they also say we’re clever and strong, and that love is what keeps us together, much like the bond between mothers and daughters in Aliens and The Terminator. I’ve been a huge fan of science fiction since I was a kid because it looks to the future. Sometimes it tries to predict it and fails miserably.

Elaborating on this, Cameron further expressed that he attempts to hold a mirror up to the audience, prompting them to consider where they are headed as a society.

Avatar 3‘s Familial Theme Is Deeply Personal to James Cameron

The Avatar movies, especially The Way of Water and Fire & Ash, have been deeply personal for James Cameron, as they explore the themes of family, which have resonated with audiences all over the globe.

Being a father of five himself, Cameron was adamant about pouring all those elements into his depiction of Pandora, and he was certain that people would be able to relate to the issues and conflicts faced by the Sully family.

I’ve chosen to tell a story about family because I have a family. I have five children. I’m just going to put all that on Pandora. I’m going to put it in this fantastic realm, because I believe that anywhere around the world, people will be able to relate to those issues and those conflicts and those characters,” Cameron told Korean reporters during an online press conference.

He was certainly right, as The Way of Water breached the elusive 2 billion-dollar club, and it appears Fire & Ash will once again bank huge upon release.

What’s Next For James Cameron: Is Avatar 4 Happening?

Although Cameron did envision more follow-ups to this story, which he certainly intends to materialize someday, for now, Cameron is ready to take a break from the mega-hit franchise to focus on his other ventures.

Cameron detailed that he would be pulling back from being hands-on with every aspect of the production process to make room for other collaborations. Speaking of this shift, the Fire & Ash director detailed:

I’ve got other stories to tell, and I’ve got other stories to tell within Avatar. What won’t happen is, I won’t go down the rabbit hole of exclusively making only Avatar for multiple years.

Even if a fourth movie doesn’t get the green light from Disney, Cameron would be content with how the third movie wraps up the saga that commenced with the first movie back in 2009. And if the follow-ups do receive the go-ahead from Disney post-Fire & Ash, expect another Avatar saga, comprising a beginning, middle, and ending.
