Some sitcoms make us laugh for a few seasons. Others become part of our lives forever. Since premiering in 2005, The Office has grown into one of the most beloved television comedies ever produced, turning the ordinary employees of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch into some of the most recognizable characters in pop culture. I’m also one of the few people who will passionately defend the six-episode first season, despite its reputation as a weaker launch that was still trying to establish its own identity apart from the UK original.
Why The Office matters
I found The Office while I was a senior in high school. A friend of mine spent gym class reenacting scenes and quoting the show nonstop. Season 2 was airing at the time, but I picked up Season 1 on DVD (I still own that DVD), and I was instantly hooked. It was, without exaggeration, the funniest thing I had ever seen. I’ve since watched the series well over 100 times from beginning to end. Despite knowing every episode by heart, I still laugh just as hard today as I did during my first viewing. Much of that comes down to Steve Carell’s performance as Michael Scott. His perfect blend of obnoxious buffoonery and heartfelt sincerity helped to carve The World’s Greatest Boss into the Mount Rushmore of television characters.
The series finds its identity in season 2, defining its characters and establishing a rhythm and humor that would carry it across nine seasons. The phrase “That’s what she said” has become synonymous with Michael Scott, and the series helped popularize a wave of workplace and mockumentary comedies that followed. Presented in 1080p High Definition, The Office looks excellent throughout its nine-season run. The mockumentary presentation was never designed to be visually flashy, but the Blu-ray transfer faithfully preserves the series’ documentary-style aesthetic while offering a sharp, clean image. Fine details throughout the office environment are noticeably clearer than previous DVD releases and streaming presentations, while colors remain natural and consistent. Whether you’re watching Jim glance at the camera or spotting one of the countless background gags hidden around the office, this presentation allows the series to look its best without sacrificing its intentionally grounded style.
Audio quality
The collection features an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track that perfectly complements the series. Since The Office is driven almost entirely by dialogue, the mix prioritizes crystal-clear conversations while giving the show’s music cues and ambient office sounds just enough presence to create an immersive experience. It’s not an aggressive surround mix by any means, but it doesn’t need to be. Every awkward pause, sarcastic remark, and perfectly timed one-liner comes through exactly as intended.
Special features
Unlike previous releases that focused on traditional bonus features, the biggest attraction here is the content integrated directly into the episodes themselves. Universal includes all 194 Superfan Extended Episodes, featuring more than 25 hours of additional footage seamlessly woven back into the series.
That does mean collectors hoping for legacy bonus features, cast reunions, commentaries, or newly produced documentaries may come away disappointed, as none are listed in Universal’s official press materials. Still, the Superfan episodes are substantial enough that they essentially become the special features. They offer a genuinely new way to experience one of television’s most beloved sitcoms.

Universal has put together an attractive package worthy of the series. The collection arrives in a sturdy outer box featuring custom artwork that nicely represents the show’s iconic ensemble. There is no slipcover, as the artwork is printed directly onto the outer collector’s box.
Inside are four oversized Blu-ray cases housing the collection’s 30 discs, with Seasons 1 through 3 sharing the first case due to the shorter inaugural season, while the remaining seasons are divided evenly throughout the other three cases. The cases feel sturdy, the discs are held securely, and the overall presentation remains easy to navigate despite the size of the collection.

Absolutely.
If you’ve only watched The Office through streaming services, this is easily the definitive way to own the series. The Blu-ray presentation looks excellent, the audio is exactly what you’d expect from one of television’s greatest comedies, and the inclusion of all 194 Superfan Extended Episodes makes this far more than just another complete series release. Even after more than 100 viewings, I found myself discovering new jokes, extended conversations, and character moments that made a show I’d watched over 100 times somehow feel fresh again.
Is it worth a blind purchase?
If you’ve somehow never watched The Office (first of all, how dare you), I’d actually recommend experiencing the original episodes first before diving into the Superfan cuts. The extended versions are best appreciated once you’re already familiar with the rhythm and pacing of the original series.
For existing fans, however, this is an unquestionable purchase. The Superfan episodes represent the most complete version of one of television’s greatest sitcoms, and this collection finally gives them the physical release they deserve.
