James Gunn has commented on whether or not the DCU opening logo will always feature Superman.
Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU officially kicked off in December 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos series. That was followed by Superman in July 2025, while Peacemaker Season 2 premiered on HBO Max last month and will continue to drop new episodes on Thursdays until the season finishes on October 9, 2025.
What did James Gunn say about the DCU opening logo?
Since the start of the DCU, many fans have wondered if the opening logo will always feature Clark Kent/Superman or if it will be updated throughout the years to include different DC characters.
Gunn addressed this on Threads and says he plans to keep it as Superman, saying, “He’s our MGM Lion.”
Another comment asked Gunn if DC Elseworlds movies and television shows will feature different characters, like someone from Matt Reeves’ The Batman Epic Crime Saga, or if it will still be Superman.
Gunn said that there will be changes made to that logo, but they won’t be anything “major.”
Following Peacemaker Season 2, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures‘ DCU continues in 2026 with the Lanterns television series starring Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl movie with Milly Alcock, and the James Watkins Clayface flick led by Tom Rhys Harries. It was also recently announced that Gunn’s follow-up to Superman, now titled Man of Tomorrow, will arrive in theaters in July 2027.
Other DCU movies that are in development include a Wonder Woman film, The Brave and the Bold, James Mangold’s Swamp Thing, Sgt. Rock, and more. As far as television, other announced shows that are coming at some point in the future include Booster Gold, Waller, Paradise Lost, and Creature Commandos Season 2, among other titles. None of these projects has a release date at this time.
