We are one episode away from the epic conclusion of Stranger Things, and we know that the ending left the cast in pieces. During a roundtable interview (via Polygon), Noah Schnapp said that when they read the final script, everyone couldn’t help but burst into tears:
Progressively through that table read, the emotions just were higher and higher, and everyone was crying by the end.
Millie Bobby Brown, who admitted to finding out the show’s ending before the entire cast knew, revealed during her guesting on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon:
We didn’t sit at a table. We sat on couches, and we cried for basically two hours straight.
Joe Keery, on the other hand, teased that the closing of a chapter had a “bittersweet” ending (via ExtraTV), though he’s satisfied with the way the story wrapped up for his character.
Jamie Campbell Bower also agrees that the final season is bittersweet, adding that Season 5 will be bigger and badder than ever, with “some more fire” that the viewers have never seen before (via People).
Stranger Things Showrunners Share Big Reveal For Season 5 Finale
With the possibilities of character deaths, showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer assured fans that this isn’t Game of Thrones. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, they addressed popular theories about multiple casualties, which they immediately debunked.
According to Matt, they have no intention of shocking or upsetting fans, but they should expect some surprising events. Furthermore, he said:
I hope by the time people get to the end of the finale that it just feels like there’s something inevitable about what happens, and that it doesn’t feel painful but feels satisfying.
While they confirmed that no Red Wedding will happen in the show, they couldn’t say what happens to Steve (Keery’s character). Some fans are worried about him after watching the trailer, although the actor previously asserted he’s happy about the ending.
What’s Next After Season 5? Spinoff Rumors, Explained
After a decade of work and the global success of the Stranger Things franchise, questions about the possibility of a spinoff are inevitable. When asked by Variety, Matt said that they have no intention of expanding “what could become an insanely convoluted mythology” after the final season.
However, they have plans to make an entirely new series in the same vein as Stranger Things. Executive producer Shawn Levy remarked that he’s “excited to extend the storytelling life” of the show, though he isn’t calling it a Stranger Things Universe just yet.
For now, plans for a spinoff remain totally vague; fans will have to prepare themselves first for the epic finale dropping on December 31, 2025.
