A Look Back At Battlefield 1 And The Gunplay Mechanics

Battlefield 1‘s weapon classes were divided into SMGs, MGs, Sniper Rifles, and Medic Class Weapons. Of these, the SMGs excelled in close quarters with an immersive hip-fire accuracy. However, it’s only whilst using the same at long distances that most gamers had a tough time dealing with the SMG’s significant spread. The spread led to a lot of missed shots and most players had to adjust and get used to the right distance to get accurate shots.
Among the Machine Guns, the Mondragón stood out for its effectiveness from range. The other semi-auto rifles, however, exhibited varying degrees of accuracy. These weapons demand players’ adaptability, urging them to find the right tool for each engagement. As for the Medic class weapons, they exhibited better accuracy from range but gamers still had to get used to the right weapons for each engagement.

The Scout Class Sniper Rifles were known for the “sweet-spot” mechanic as they delivered results for well-placed shots from a distance. The absence of distance markers, however, still irked players when going for an extremely long-range shot. Not that the mechanics were broken as most gamers just couldn’t continue to practice patience to adapt and embrace the different dynamics.

Battlefield 1‘s gunplay mechanics demonstrated the franchise’s evolution, by introducing new gameplay dynamics that challenged players’ strategies and skills. This backfired amongst a minor section of gamers who were not as patient with trying to get used to the available vast ammunition. The Call of Duty franchise also had its share of some terrible guns but that was overshadowed by the actual collection of armory for each requirement. From Shotguns to Rifles and SMGs, the loadout had some serious options for players to choose from.
As for Battlefield 1, this unexpected redemption hasn’t been a solitary endeavor. The developers fostered a strong bond with the gaming community by actively seeking feedback. They also constantly engaged in open dialogue and this approach paved the way for a bunch of updates and patches that continued to refine the game. This willingness to listen and adapt earned the respect and loyalty of the gaming community, turning them into devoted enthusiasts.

As players still continue to explore and master the revered game’s intricacies, Battlefield 1 has now cemented its position as a game that rewards skill and adaptability by offering an experience that is both deeply satisfying and engaging.

The game’s dedication to immersion and realism was evident in factors like its firing rhythm, the accuracy gained over time, and the aforementioned sweet spot mechanic that reshaped combat dynamics. Call of Duty may have garnered a substantial sales gross and continue to hold third place among overall highest-grossing games, but the Battlefield franchise and specifically, Battlefield 1 still holds a special place among seasoned gamers who are now showing the deserved support.
The development team essentially continued to reinvent the core of the game and set a new standard for gunplay mechanics. In the face of adversity all these years, this commitment to excellence has ultimately proven to be the turning point in the franchise’s journey from infamy to acclaim.
