Modern family beats every sitcom for a streaming record before christmas
Spread the love

Despite being half a decade since the final season of Modern Family was released, it still consistently tops the charts in terms of viewership for Disney+ (via FlixPatrol). Thus, there have also been claims that the series, since its inception, has become the most-watched sitcom series on the platform.

And while it may be debatable, the Holidays are the time when this claim is most agreed upon, since the series is a real comfort watch with the family. In fact, what makes this even more believable through the cast’s sentiments, where they considered each other family while working on the sets.

Modern Family Star Claims the Cast Was Like a Real Family

We all remember the various antics and shenanigans that the characters of the series would get into, among whom was everyone’s favorite, Manny, played on screen by actor Rico Rodriguez. And although the show declined his character development in later seasons, he still remembers the good times he spent with the other cast members on the show.

In fact, in an interview with People, the star revealed how working on Modern Family had a lasting impression on his life. He also stated that while they were co-stars, they all treated each other like a real family that was putting on a show. He said:

That was such a special time. I feel so blessed and honored to be a part of that show and having kind of a lasting impact of television history. I mean, we were a part of that in a big way. And not once did we ever think that, ‘Oh, we’re this big-time show.’ We were just a family who wanted to make good TV, that’s all. Every day, that’s all we want to do is come in, do our thing, have fun, and then go home. And the response and the accolades and everything that came after was just like, ‘Whoa, I can’t believe people even like our show.’ You know what I mean?

And even today, when all the stars have gone their own way after the show’s end, they still stay in touch with each other and entertain the audience through their amazing performances, especially during the Holiday season.

Modern Family Perfected the Feel-Good Mockumentary Formula

While iconic mockumentaries like The Office and Parks and Recreation exist, what makes Modern Family special is its genre-bending perfection through the combination of a feel-good atmosphere mixed with mockery.

While most mockumentaries mainly use cringe-comedy to tell the narrative, Modern Family uses classic sitcom tropes and comedy signature, but in a more self-aware manner. Through the use of in-person interviews and camera work, but adding traditional humor to it, it didn’t polarize the audience, but brought them in.

At the same time, the minimisation of gags and maximising subtle, witty, and physical humor added to the more nuanced quality of the series that appealed to everyone, especially with families. And lastly, they nailed the classic high-emotion payoffs that are a staple of mockumentaries, which makes the show still impactful and memorable all these years later.
