Marvel Studios is getting ready to hit the reset button, and Kevin Feige has now said so out loud. Speaking to Chinese press about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, the studio boss opened up about where the Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading once the Multiverse Saga wraps.
According to Feige, the plan is twofold. He explained, “We want to do two things. First, to bring some storylines to a close, those that started long before Iron Man, including the original X-Men characters. Second, to simultaneously set the stage for the future.” So, the two-movie Multiverse Saga is surely the end of the road for Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, and the other original X-Men.
However, fans have some good news on the X-Men front. Feige went on to describe that while Endgame was a true finish line, Secret Wars is a launch pad. Feige described the post-Secret Wars world as “a streamlined, simplified, single universe that we can keep up with.” He further shared that the new X-Men will be at the center of this fresh MCU world. He said:
Going back to what we mentioned earlier about attracting young people and connecting with a new generation of audiences, that’s exactly what the next universe will be about. And at its core will be the X-Men.
That’s a big deal, especially with an X-Men reboot currently in the works. Fans are already dying to see the MCU version of the beloved characters, including Professor X, Magneto, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Cyclops, and others. And fans have all sorts of theories about who’s going to play who in the new movie.
Kevin Feige’s Comments Suggest a Fresh Start Like Secret Wars Comics

In his comments, Kevin Feige promised a cleaner, easier-to-follow Marvel going forward. Feige’s wording lines up almost perfectly with how Secret Wars played out on the page. In the comics, writer Jonathan Hickman used the 2015 event to smash different realities together and rebuild the Marvel Universe from the pieces.
When the dust settled, characters from the Ultimate Universe, like Miles Morales, were folded into the main world alongside everyone else. It was a soft reboot, keeping what worked and clearing out what didn’t. And that’s exactly what the MCU needs at this point.
The studio now seems to be following that same playbook. Feige said in his comments, “Some things will be familiar, but many, many things will be entirely new.” That almost sounds like a soft reboot. Some heroes will carry over, while others could be recast or reimagined from scratch.
The mention of a single, unified timeline is also telling. It suggests the messy multiverse is being tidied up, with the Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four all sharing one reality.
Marvel Studios Has Mapped Out MCU Movies Up to 2042
Along with the post-Secret Wars tease, Kevin Feige also dropped a jaw-dropping detail about just how far ahead Marvel is thinking. Despite all the talk of ‘superhero fatigue’, the studio isn’t slowing down its long-term planning. In fact, it has been sketching out ideas for movies more than fifteen years into the future. Feige shared:
We were just in a Marvel Studios meeting room, planning movies all the way up to 2042. Whether we can make it to 2042? Who knows? Will it be those movies? Who knows? But this is how we approach and plan the vast amount of potential stories in the comics.
So this isn’t a locked release schedule, but more of a big-picture roadmap. It shows that Marvel is treating its comic library as a deep well of stories to pull from for decades to come. For now, the more immediate concern is the two-part Avengers finale. The trailer for Avengers: Doomsday dropped recently, adding to the fan excitement.
