After the spectacular ending of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga back in 2024, Gege Akutami gave us Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo (MAL rating as of August 19, 2026: 7.14/10) and showed us three new protagonists: Yuka, Tsurugi, and Maru. This sequel was set about 70 years into the future; however, Gege knew that fans yearn to know what happened to Yuji after beating Sukuna.
We learned that Yuji is now the strongest, but is missing. He does, however, return by the end of the manga, and we get to learn that he is probably the most tragic protagonist in the modern shonen landscape. Here is everything you need to know about his fate after becoming the strongest.
Itadori Yuji’s Only Wish In Jujutsu Kaisen Couldn’t Be Granted

At the beginning of the original anime and manga, it was made clear that there is something really important that Yuji wants to make sure of: to die surrounded by the people he loves, as his grandfather wanted for him. Furthermore, at that time, it was common understanding that Yuji was to be executed after consuming all of Sukuna’s fingers.
However, things took an insane turn; Sukuna ended up in Megumi’s body, with Yuji killing Sukuna soon after. It was a happy ending; the main trio survived. In the sequel, it was clearly shown how Yuji is the strongest character in the verse now. However, that doesn’t make things good for him, as he has also stopped aging like a human.

The sheer number of funerals he had to go to – everyone he loved dying one after another- while he didn’t age at all, made him distance himself from everyone.
The reason this happened is that he is unique in multiple senses. First of all, he is the perfect vessel of Sukuna created by Kenjaku; then he ate the other death paintings. It is this unique physiology that made him look like a young man in his early twenties, even when he was well above 80 years old.
Yuji’s Plan to Turn Himself Into a Cursed Object

Maru and Yuji used Mahito to commit the greatest sin of all: manipulating the souls of the people who aren’t even born yet, so that there won’t ever be any problems regarding Cursed Energy. This means that everyone will die of old age, but Yuji will be the only sorcerer left. He explained to Nobara how he will easily live for another 300 years as well.
However, he is not naive, as he understands that the future is unclear, and there can be any new threat. In his own words, aliens did come after all. So, he has started preparing for that unknown future as well. First of all, he is taking the help of Nobara to gather and create as many Cursed Tools as possible, so that humanity in the future can still fight. And secondly, he is going to turn himself into a Cursed Object, just like Sukuna, so that someone in the future can eat it and gain his powers.

From Sukuna’s experience, we know that he won’t be dead in the true sense and will be living in his innate domain. Which means 300 years is only the limit for how long he will get to interact with other humans before he ends up spending god-knows how much time alone.
While there is no confirmation or even a hint from Gege Akutami about what actually happens in the next 300 years, he did leave a lot of room for it. A science-fiction story set even further in the future, where the protagonist eats Yuji’s finger, and ends up partnering with him, and getting the seemingly magical and forgotten Cursed Energy, along with techniques such as Blood Manipulation, Cleave, and Dismantle, would be a real treat.
However, no matter what direction the franchise goes in, if it continues at all, nothing will change the fact that the most basic wish of Yuji’s grandfather went unfulfilled.
