Amy Poehler and Will Arnett have multiple mutual friends who might soon have to pick sides, and Jennifer Aniston is yet another one of them. Though it has been almost a decade since their “brutal” divorce in 2016, reports are surfacing that the two are at odds again, and this time, it’s over the custody of the friends they both share.
Since both of them have a podcast now (more on this later), their mutual friends in Hollywood are in trouble. As a source explained (per RadarOnline.com),
If you’re a celebrity who knows any of these people personally, you are compelled to pick sides if you’re going to guest on either of those shows. That puts their friends in an awkward position as they promote their current and upcoming projects.
That’s something to say because this duo’s circle notably includes many big names, among the likes of Bradley Cooper and Aubrey Plaza, besides Aniston.
Amy Poehler and Will Arnett Each Have Their Own Podcast Now
The news is that Amy Poehler, 54, has launched her own highly rated podcast, “Good Hang with Amy Poehler.” Meanwhile, Will Arnett has made millions as a co-host of the Smartless podcast with Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes for years now.
While the two have reached a good place since their split, amicably co-parenting their two sons together, this new venture of the pair might reportedly put their celebrity friends in the crossfire. As a source claimed to RadarOnline.com,
Even though it’s been years since Amy and Will ended their marriage, it’s still one of those situations where their Hollywood pals get caught in the crossfire. It’s got even more tense now that Amy has entered the podcasting fray.
It remains to be seen how exactly things end up turning out for this duo and their list of celebrity best friends now that things have reportedly come down to this.

Amy Poehler and Will Arnett were practically a match made in comedy heaven, the perfect pair who appeared inseparable during their marriage. Be it working together on projects or cracking jokes during red carpet events, the two seemed the happiest together. So it did come as a shock when they decided to part ways.
Their history goes back to 1996, when Arnett saw Poehler perform for the first time with her improv troupe, Upright Citizens’ Brigade, and was immediately smitten. He even had a girlfriend at the time and shared with PEOPLE years later while talking about his first impression of the Parks and Recreation actress,
I went with my then-girlfriend, and she was like, ‘You have a crush on that girl!’ Amy did stick out. She was fantastic and obviously really cute.
Unfortunately for them, both of them were committed to other people at the time. In fact, it wasn’t until 2000 that they reconnected through mutual friends. Then, in 2001, the two were side by side when she famously joined the cast of Saturday Night Live.
Two years later, when Arnett’s show Arrested Development premiered in 2003, the two tied the knot. In 2005, Poehler confessed what she liked about being married to Arnett, telling PEOPLE,
He makes me feel very safe. You can have a lot of adventures if you have someone by your side.
Over the years, when they were together, they certainly did have quite a few adventures together, especially when they appeared alongside each other in several movies and TV shows. This includes co-starring in 2007’s Blades of Glory, SNL, and in projects like Hot Rod and 30 Rock. Arnett told Collider about working with his wife:
We had the opportunity to work together every day, so that was kind of great. It was a lot of fun.
The first time, though, was on Arnett’s Arrested Development, where Poehler made a memorable guest appearance as Arnett’s impromptu wife. Soon after, Arnett also made a guest appearance on Poehler’s Parks and Recreation in 2010. They walked numerous red carpets and attended public events together as well.
Additionally, during their marriage, Arnett and Poehler welcomed two sons together: Archie, born in 2008, and Abel, born in 2010.
However, unfortunately for them, their union couldn’t last for too long. After 9 years of marriage, Will Arnett and Amy Poehler separated in September 2012. At the time, a source told Us Weekly that the breakup was “very amicable,” with both of their representatives confirming their split to PEOPLE. As for why it ended, a source told RadarOnline.com,
[The relationship simply] fizzled out. Will and Amy started to feel more like best friends than a married couple – and sadly, they lost their spark. They drifted apart, like a lot of couples do, but there’s no malice in the split, nor was anyone else involved. The two still love each other very dearly – and everything is completely amicable – but the romance die,d and neither one of them was happy, so something had to be done.
Two years later, Arnett officially filed for divorce in 2014, which was finalized in 2016. Per reports from The Daily Mail, the divorce settlement said that the couple would share joint custody of their two sons, and neither would be expected to pay child support or alimony.
Following the end of their marriage, Poehler wrote in her 2014 memoir Yes Please (via E! News),
Getting a divorce really sucks. I am proud of how my ex-husband, Will and I, have been taking care of our children. I am beyond grateful he is their father, and I don’t think a 10-year marriage constitutes failure.
Arnett voiced similar thoughts in a 2022 interview with The Guardian while talking about his divorce, saying,
It’s been almost 10 years, and my kids are so lucky that Amy is their mother, and I’m so lucky that we’re such a huge part of each other’s lives, even more so than we were five years ago. I was driving to the set one day, and I pulled over to the side of the road and cried for an hour.
So as amicable as their split was, it was also pretty “brutal” for the two, as Arnett himself admitted. Then again, when did losing a best friend not hurt? At the same time, now that it has come down to the custody of their friends and their respective podcasts, it remains to be seen how exactly things turn out between them this time around.
