Following the success of Coyote vs. Acme, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has now made his stance clear on the hybrid film. The movie was originally produced by Warner Bros. before being shelved. Years later, Ketchup Entertainment acquired the distribution rights and released the film to positive reviews.
In a new social media post, Gunn praised the film’s success, marking the filmmaker’s first public commentary on the project. “This makes me so happy,” Gunn said while sharing a post celebrating the film’s $100 million box-office performance.

How is James Gunn involved with Coyote vs. Acme
Before taking on the leading executive role at DC Studios, Gunn produced Coyote vs. Acme and received a story credit on the film. Due to Warner Bros. controversial history with the film, Gunn’s public appraisal of the film is surprising fans.
Gunn originally pitched the film to Warner Bros. in 2015, with elements of that early concept informing the eventual film. Many years later, Gunn later continued his work with Warner Bros., including The Suicide Squad. The filmmaker is currently in the middle of post-production on Man of Tomorrow, the next film in the DCU.
While Samy Burch wrote the screenplay, Gunn received a story credit and was involved in the film’s development. Gunn’s production company, Troll Court Entertainment, is also credited as a production company.
The film follows Wile E. Coyote in a courtroom battle against the Acme Corporation, which he is suing for producing defective products. Besides the animated Looney Tunes characters, the film stars Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor. Directed by Dave Green, the film was finally released in theaters in late August this year.
Coyote vs. Acme will be released on HBO Max later in September.
