The fight for a new face for James Bond has begun. However, while most of us are on the lookout for a protagonist, my evil mind, which finds the villains more reasonable, even if rejected by society, has already found the next perfect Bond villain: Eddie Redmayne.
The most versatile actor, who blessed us in The Theory of Everything, became the most lovable in The Danish Girl, and even shook hands with Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts series, portrayed some great combat skills in The Day of the Jackal.
This comes after I hated that the Bond franchise rejected Henry Cavill just because he was too young, as per People.
Within just one season, his sleeper skills were enough to grab the attention of everyone. Joined by a great cast, the story that began in 2024 is set to continue in the coming months. However, let’s focus on why I feel Redmayne could become a great Bond villain of the modern era.
Eddie Redmayne Could Be Most Ruthless Modern Bond Villain
In recent years, we have enjoyed Daniel Craig’s movies, which have featured action and stories of a Bond who had to pay the price for his past actions. Meanwhile, we even lost some of the franchise’s central characters, like M, at the hands of villains.
But to be honest, none of these villains were themselves combat-ready to take on Craig’s Bond. They were the superiors giving orders to their huge bodyguards, or WWE stars making a cameo, only to be thrown out of the game. What James Bond needs is an outcast. Someone who has been done wrong and has a highly skilled, evil mind that will stop at nothing. An agent for an agent.
Back in the classic days, when Pierce Brosnan ruled the hearts of the ladies and the minds of the young blood, we saw him face former associates of the British Secret Intelligence Service, or, let’s say, MI6.
That was when we felt the real action and chase. This was missing in the latest outings. However, Eddie Redmayne has the skills to change that. Looking at his role in The Day of the Jackal, he could play a perfect opponent, hunting Bond.
Maybe, this time, he could be a good old pal of our beloved Bond, looking at whom, the protagonist would go numb or even pull his punches. But like Storm Shadow is for Snake Eyes, Redmayne would come for only one thing, and that is the death of Bond. After Rami Malek’s vigorous-natured villain, the river needs to flow in the right direction.
The Bond 26 Problem Isn’t 007, It’s Who & What 007 Is Fighting

People these days wish for classics. For the last decade and a half, people have only seen technologically advanced masterminds or filthy rich villains running a secret society, kidnapping some beautiful ladies. Ahem! Not cool.
This has to change in Bond 26. Imagine a fit antagonist challenging James Bond, looking him right in the eye. James Bond movies are supposed to be action thrillers, and they need to be defined more promptly. Not only by having the protagonist hang mid-air, but also the antagonist, who chases 007 like a cheetah chases a gazelle.
The struggle needs to be two-way. And instead of an army or hired hoodlums, the job needs to be done by the main villain himself.
All That You Should Know About The Day of the Jackal Season 2
The Peacock series, The Day of the Jackal, was renewed ahead of the Season 1 finale, and here are the details that you need to know. With Eddie Redmayne set to make a return, we can also hope for Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, and Eleanor Matsuura to appear in the second season.
With no official plot details spilled on the table, the only clue that was left for season two was by Redymayne teasing, “If there’s one thing the Jackal can’t stand, it’s a loose end.”
While no date has been announced yet, we hope it premieres in autumn 2026 or fall of 2027, based on the premiere of the first season.
