A recent viral rumor surrounding Marvel Studios’ upcoming crossover Avengers: Doomsday suggested a major multiversal clash involving classic Spider-Man villains, but a prominent industry insider is pouring cold water on the claim.
Early reports alleged that Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus would team up with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in an opening scene sequence against members of Fox’s X-Men universe. According to the speculation, the two realities collided during a catastrophic incursion, leading to a fight between Molina’s Doc Ock and Ian McKellen’s Magneto.
However, insider Daniel Richtman publicly dismissed the specific plot point on X, responding to fan queries about the rumor. “No, Doc Ock isn’t in the X-Men universe trying to blow it up,” he wrote.

While Richtman’s comment debunks more on Doc Ock’s opening sequence, speculation regarding Tobey Maguire’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday continues to circulate across fraternity.
Will Avengers: Doomsday feature Spider-Man?
Marvel has not confirmed Spider-Man’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday. Tobey Maguire has been linked to the movie through several reports, including claims about a large multiversal action sequence.
One report alleged that Maguire’s Spider-Man would defend his universe against Deadpool and Wolverine. The sequence was reportedly set on Earth-96283, the reality featured in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.
Meanwhile, Tom Holland has also been linked to Avengers: Doomsday; however, Marvel has not announced him as part of the cast.
The upcoming crossover already has several confirmed connections to Marvel’s multiverse. Marvel has announced the return of X-Men actors, including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, alongside the Fantastic Four. These confirmed appearances establish the film’s multiversal setting, but they do not confirm the rumored involvement of either Maguire or Holland.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026. It will bring together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wakandans, New Avengers, and X-Men. Robert Downey Jr. will also return to the MCU as the film’s main villain, Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom.
