Christopher Nolan‘s fans need to hurry up. Time is running out if they haven’t seen The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm yet. The latest blockbuster is nearing the end of its run in IMAX 70mm theatres. Fans will be left with almost no chance to see the epic adventure in these auditoriums.
The Odyssey is the first commercial feature film shot entirely on true 15-perforation/70mm IMAX cameras. These cameras are known for being notoriously heavy, loud, and requiring frequent reloading. It was also released on extremely limited IMAX screens, as only 25 theaters in the U.S. (and 41 globally) were equipped to project the true 70mm IMAX format.
The cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal.
The Odyssey’s IMAX 70mm run is entering its final days
According to the latest reports from @GlobalBoxOffice on X, Nolan’s Greek epic is “ending its run in IMAX 70mm auditoriums this coming weekend.” Tom Cruise’s Digger will take that spot next.
The extended theatrical window for The Odyssey closes on September 30, 2026. Tickets for the remaining slots are reportedly heavily sold out. This epic action fantasy blockbuster was penned and helmed by Nolan. It’s an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem, the Odyssey. The story follows Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who embarks on a perilous journey home after the Trojan War.
As he crosses the Mediterranean Sea with his fellow soldiers, however, they soon find themselves battling the unexpected. Deadly obstacles and mythical creatures await them at every step of the way, alongside the harsh elements themselves.
While the film is currently playing in select movie theaters, its digital video-on-demand (VOD) and physical release is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, 2026.
