The Flash star Ezra Miller has shared a blunt response when asked about a potential sequel to the DCEU film. The actor portrayed Barry Allen in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe film after debuting as the character in 2016’s Batman v. Superman. The Flash was released in 2023 to mixed reviews and was one of the final films in the franchise before being rebooted by DC Studios.
While interacting with a fan in Venice, Miller was asked when the next Flash movie would arrive. “God only knows,” they replied while chuckling. They did not comment any further on the prospect of starring in another Flash project.
The Flash most likely won’t be getting a sequel
The Flash’s troubled production is no secret. The film entered development in 2014, before Miller debuted as the character in the DCEU. After appearing in Batman v. Superman and Justice League, the scarlet speedster finally headlined his solo film in 2023. However, due to delays in production and Miller’s legal controversies, along with mixed reviews, the film failed to light the box office on fire. It grossed just over $271 million worldwide.
The film also arrived on the heels of the DCEU getting rebooted by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Ultimately, the film’s unfortunate critical and financial performance, along with the inception of the DCU, will likely result in it being Miller’s only solo film as the superhero. The actor portrayed the part seven times over their tenure, including a cameo on the CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Its director, Andy Muschietti, is also set to direct the DCU’s upcoming Batman film, The Brave and the Bold. It remains to be seen when and where the DCU will introduce its own version of the fastest man alive.
