Reports say Marvel Studios’ top brass were struggling with an Avengers: Doomsday cut last week. The movie had reportedly had a three-hour and 30-minute runtime at the time. Marvel Studios are now aiming to bring it down to two hours and 50 minutes.
A fresh update on that front from scooper @MyTimeToShineH on X has stated that the film’s current cut is at an acceptable two hours and 45 minutes, well below what the previous rumor had claimed was the aim. Of course, the final runtime might differ from what the scooper reported and can only be confirmed once Marvel Studios releases it post-certification.

The latest Avengers: Doomsday updates fans need to know
The Russo brothers recently revealed that production on Avengers: Doomsday began even before the film’s script was completed. Wyatt Russel, who plays U.S. Agent/John Walker, previously stated that the story had changed a “thousand times”.
The Russo Brothers’ interview with AP News revealed a lot about what Doomsday was about, and what Marvel Studios was expecting for the MCU going forward. It’s well established that Secret Wars is set to restructure the MCU, stripping away what hasn’t resonated with fans while keeping what has worked.
In that vein, Anthony Russo described Doomsday as a “back to zero” moment for Marvel. He said, “We never want to coast on the capital that already exists. We want the greatest value of the film to reside in the new thing it’s bringing to the table.”
The film will see Avengers, New Avengers, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, and various unaffiliated heroes join forces to fight against Doctor Doom. The Russos also revealed that given the enormous cast, with each faction having clashing stakes, they took inspiration for the film from Once Upon a Time in the West.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theatres on December 18, 2026.
