5 Worst Designed Bleach Characters That Need a Tite Kubo Design Overhaul
Spread the love

The Bleach anime and manga series probably have some of the most unique and mature character designs in the Big 3 of shonen anime. While designs of characters like Ichigo, Rukia, and Yhwach fit their personalities and abilities perfectly, we feel like a few are definitely lacking.

If we narrow it further down, the Sternritters were supposed to be the most intimidating and unique Quincy bunch from the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc, but honestly, some of them are really poorly designed against their characters. So without further ado, here are some of the worst Bleach character designs we feel like need a complete design overhaul from Tite Kubo.

1. PePe Waccabrada’s Cupid Getup Never Matches His Menacing Power

PePe Waccabrada from Bleach | Credits: Studio Pierrot

PePe is a short, obese old man with dark shades and a beard shaped like an upside-down V, floating around Silbern on a basket like a parade decoration. His Schrift, The Love, is one of the more unsettling powers in the Thousand-Year Blood War, capable of turning allies against each other with a single touch.

Then his Quincy: Vollstandig kicks in, and he becomes a chubby winged cupid in a diaper cloth, and the horror evaporates instantly. Kubo wanted him gross and threatening, but the design reads like a mascot costume. Honestly, a power built on manipulation and dread deserves a design that unsettles people at first sight, not one that gets laughed at first.

2. Nianzol Weizol’s Plain Coat Wastes One Of TYBW‘s Coolest Powers

Nianzol Weizol from Bleach | Credits: Studio Pierrot

Nianzol Weizol can bend any attack away from his body just by thinking about it, a power terrifying enough that even Yhwach kept him close as a personal shield. Visually, though, he’s just a barefoot guy in a plain white double-breasted coat with shaggy hair and an unremarkable face.

Nothing about his silhouette hints at space manipulation or the two tongues that make his speech slur. Senjumaru kills him within a few pages of showing up, and the design barely earns him the screen time he got. Bodyguard to the strongest Quincy alive should look like more than a background extra someone forgot to draw properly.

3. Meninas McAllon’s Cutesy Look Undercuts Her Building-Smashing Power

Meninas McAllon from Bleach | Credits: Studio Pierrot

Meninas stands 6’3″ tall, making her the tallest woman in Bleach, and her Schrift, The Power, lets her casually lift entire buildings and hurl them like debris. None of that comes through in the design, which leans on a frilled skirt, a heart-shaped belt buckle, and a soft, doe-eyed expression that portrays her as cute and jolly.

The gap between a devastating brute-force ability and a look built entirely around cuteness leaves her reading as another pretty face in uniform, not a top-tier fighter in the Wandenreich. A Sternritter who can casually throw a skyscraper deserved a silhouette that hinted at raw power, not one built purely around looking sweet.

4. Driscoll Berci Blends Into Every Other Hulking Sternritter Brute

Driscoll Berci from Bleach | Credits: Studio Pierrot

Driscoll is a towering Quincy with a chinstrap beard who slaughtered over a hundred Shinigami and later stole Chojiro Sasakibe’s Bankai outright, which should make him memorable. Instead, he’s stuck in the same broad-shouldered, trench-coated silhouette as half the other muscle-bound Sternritter, most notably Mask De Masculine, and even Gerard Valkyrie, one of the strongest characters.

Strip away the beard, and there’s genuinely little to separate him from the crowd at a glance. His look stays disappointingly interchangeable for a kill this brutal. Basically, one of the war’s earliest and most vicious kills came from a Sternritter whose look you’d forget within a single chapter.

5. Candice Catnipp’s Design Barely Differs From Every Other Bambie

Candice Catnipp from Bleach | Credits: Studio Pierrot

Candice gets lightning-bolt eyebrows and green hair, and that’s basically the entire visual distinction between her and the rest of the Bambies. The same tall frame, the same jacket, just extra cropped, the same shorts, and the same heart-shaped buckle show up on Meninas, Liltotto, and Bambietta with only the color palette swapped out.

Nothing about her actual outfit reads as electric beyond those eyebrows, which makes an entire named Schrift feel like an afterthought stapled onto a recycled type instead of a genuinely new design. When five different Sternritter share one template, it starts feeling like a shortcut.
