Elizabeth Olsen reflects on her experience in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and offers a vague response about whether Scarlet Witch is still alive following the fan-favorite — and highly polarizing — character’s fate in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Fans have always been eager to see Olsen return in the MCU once again as Wanda Maximoff (a.k.a the Scarlet Witch). And with Matt Shakman having previously teased the character’s potential return, rumors about the actress reprising the role continue to circulate online — especially regarding her possible appearance in Avengers: Doomsday.
What did Elizabeth Olsen say about the possible MCU return?
While the character’s fate in the MCU remains uncertain, Olsen has reiterated her desire to don the Scarlet Witch suit once again. In an interview with InStyle, when asked if she thinks Scarlet Witch is still alive, the actress simply responded, “No idea.”
She then went on to express how it felt working in the MCU for the past several years, saying, “It’s ridiculous. We’re grown people behaving like children on a playground. We’re flying. We’re shooting things out of our hands. And it’s a character that I’ve gotten to return to so many times over 10 years. It’s good to put her down and then I miss her and I want her back. I’d jump at the opportunity to be in her shoes again.”
She added, “The insane camera movement, stunt work, and special effects, visual effects that are happening in real time. It’s a lot of coordination, it’s hundreds and hundreds of people on set, and it’s a powerful thing to be a part of all those people working towards one goal. The people doing the visual effects are artists.”
Olsen has played the Wanda Maximoff character across movies and television. After the 2022 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, she went on to star in other projects outside the superhero genre, including His Three Daughters, The Assessment, and Love & Death. She can next be seen in the A24 rom-com, Eternity, set for theatrical release on November 26.
