The Age of Revelation has come unto the Marvel Universe. Set in a dark potential future, the X-Men event has promised big changes for the world to come. One such change involves the Phoenix Force and the unexpected hero now acting as its host in the absence of Jean Grey.
The X-Men comics have been building to the Age of Revelation for the past year, with Doug “Cypher” Ramsey becoming the heir of Apocalypse. Now calling himself Revelation, Ramsey sought to use his increased powers to build a better world. This will apparently lead to him taking over half of the United States to make a Mutant Utopia. It will also apparently lead to the Phoenix Force being taken over by a familiar yet unexpected hero.
Who is the next host of the X-Men’s Phoenix Force?
The preview of Binary #1 explicitly confirms that Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, becomes the Phoenix of the future. She also readopts her old costume and the codename Binary, which she used during her time among the X-Men. This change was meant to reflect the duality of her powers as both the Phoenix and a half-Kree mutate.
The main cover and first five pages of Binary #1 may be viewed below.
The revelation that Captain Marvel is the new Phoenix explains one mystery from X-Men: Age of Revelation Overture. When Cyclops‘ mind was put into his future self’s body, he couldn’t feel his psychic connection to Jean Grey. Subsequently, this suggests that Jean is dead in the future. However, this still leaves the questions of what happened to her and how Carol Danvers became the new host of the Phoenix Force.
Binary #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on October 8, 2025.
