Zach Cregger’s DC movie could wind up happening.

Cregger made his feature film directorial debut as a solo director in 2022 with Barbarian. Prior to that, he co-directed 2009’s Miss March and 2011’s The Civil War on Drugs with Trevor Moore, who passed away in 2021. After Barbarian, Cregger produced 2025’s Companion before his next movie, Weapons, was released in United States theaters this past August.

Cregger has previously discussed wanting to make a DC Studios movie that he has referred to as his “favorite thing” that he’s ever written. There’s been no announcement at DC, which is run by James Gunn and Peter Safran, about this movie being made at this point in time.

What is the latest update on Zach Cregger’s DC movie?

According to a recent report from Puck, the future of Cregger’s DC movie may be dependent on the potential Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery merger. Paramount Pictures’ David Ellison is reportedly very interested in making Cregger’s DC film, so much so that Paramount co-chair Josh Greenstein recently visited Prague to try and “court” Cregger.

“I’m told Cregger discussed with Greenstein his desire to write and direct a movie set in a particular corner of the DC universe (which character or characters are involved is unclear), and Greenstein said he would be more than happy to make that happen, if possible,” the article notes.

There were previously reports that Cregger’s movie, titled Henchmen, would follow a low-level henchman in Gotham City who incapacitates Batman through a “stroke of luck.” After this, he begins to gain notoriety in Gotham’s crime underworld. Joker and Harley Quinn were also reported to appear in the film.

Cregger, however, said the matter had been “blown out of proportion online” when appearing on Double Toasted. He explained, “So, yeah, I wrote Henchmen, which is a story that takes place in the DC Universe, like years before I wrote Barbarian, and I really love it. But it’s not a Joker and Harley script. I’ve seen that online. And, no, I haven’t talked to James Gunn about it. I haven’t really talked to anyone at [DC Studios] about it.”
