Following the critical success of the first installment, HBO‘s hit DC Universe series The Penguin has finally received a promising update about what’s next for the crime drama. More than a year after wrapping up Season 1, the show currently holds an impressive Tomatometer rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What did HBO CEO Casey Bloys say about The Penguin Season 2?

Per Screen Rant, HBO boss Casey Bloys has confirmed that he has already started discussing the possibility of The Penguin Season 2 with the DC Studios team. This comes after the show managed to win 9 awards out of 24 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actress for Sofia Falcone actress Cristin Milioti.

“We are talking to the [DC] team about what a second season of The Penguin could look like,” Bloys shared.

The Penguin chronicles Cobb’s rise to power in Gotham’s seedy underbelly, giving fans a look into how he becomes the formidable crime kingpin he’s known to be. Season 1 starred Colin Farrell, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Zegen, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Francois Chau, Carmen Ejogo, David H. Holmes, and more. The series was written and executive produced by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, with The Batman director Matt Reeves also serving as an executive producer.

While Season 2 hasn’t officially received a renewal order, Farrell’s Oz Cobb/The Penguin will next be seen in Reeves’ highly anticipated The Batman sequel, which will debut on October 1, 2027. In a previous interview, the acclaimed actor confirmed that he had already read Reeves and Mattson Tomlin’s script for the Robert Pattinson-led movie.

“I had so many thoughts and feelings to share with Matt about the script,” Farrell said. “I really do think it’s a masterwork. Kind of a contemporary genre masterwork. It’s so brilliant and Robert has got such a lovely journey to go on and take the audience through.”
