Superman has set another impressive viewership record.
James Gunn’s Superman was released in United States theaters in July 2025. The Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios flick stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
What record did Superman break?
Superman was released on the HBO Max streaming platform on September 19, 2025. In the ten days since its streaming release, Superman received 13 million views. This makes it the platform’s biggest ten-day audience for a movie debut since Greta Gerwig’s Barbie in 2023, per Variety.
“According to Warner Bros. Discovery, other titles involving the Superman character also saw spikes in viewership immediately before and after the movie began streaming,” the article notes. “During the week of Sept. 15-21, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story saw a 670% increase in streaming compared to the week before. Superman: The Movie jumped by 155%, Superman Returns jumped by 120% and Man of Steel jumped 40% during the same window.”
Superman, which had a budget of approximately $225 million, made more than $600 million globally during its theatrical run. It is currently the eighth highest-grossing movie of 2025, following Ne Zha 2, Lilo & Stitch, A Minecraft Movie, Jurassic World Rebirth, How to Train Your Dragon, F1, and Demon Slayer The Movie: Infinity Castle.
The synopsis for the DCU film reads, “Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor, and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”
Superman is now available to stream on HBO Max.
