Marvel fans still don’t know the main villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but some new details rule out quite a few possibilities.
So far, only two villains have been confirmed for the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe-set Spider-Man movie: Scorpion and Tombstone. Michael Mando is reprising his role as Mac Gargan/Scorpion from Spider-Man: Homecoming, while Marvin Jones III has been cast as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone. Despite both being major villains of Spider-Man in the comics, trusted scooper John Rocha recently claimed that neither will be “main villains.”
What new details have been shared about the Spider-Man: Brand New Day villain?
Instead, per ComicBookMovie, Rocha’s sources have revealed that the “main villain is a female shapeshifter. They’ve cast the person, but I’m not allowed to say who it was. Not sure if they’re the Chameleon or not, but they are a shapeshifter.” Despite these new villain details, Rocha revealed that the “main people” Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will fight in Brand New Day will be the Hulk and Punisher, who will be played by returning MCU stars Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal, respectively.
Rocha also disclosed some additional story details that have yet to be reported, including that “Boomerang is also going to be part of this movie, and that MJ has a new boyfriend, which is what causes Peter to snap a bit and makes the movie a little more darker and grounded.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up after the events of 2021’s No Way Home, which ended with the universe forgetting who Peter Parker was, allowing for the MCU to bring Holland’s Spider-Man closer to his comic book counterpart. Production on the superhero sequel began in August 2025, with Destin Daniel Cretton in the director’s chair.
Besides the aforementioned actors, the cast for Brand New Day includes Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, as well as Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Tramell Tillman. While the latter three’s roles remain undisclosed, Sink is reportedly playing an ally to Peter Parker, while Tillman is playing one of the secondary villains. Florence Pugh is also rumored to be reprising her role as Yelena Belova.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released in theaters by Sony on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
