A new God of War TV show update suggests that we may be getting some casting news on the highly anticipated Amazon series soon.
What is the latest God of War TV news?
According to a new report from noted insider Daniel Richtman, casting has begun for the upcoming TV show. Richtman’s report, which was posted by a foreign fan who’s report has been translated, notes that Richtman said Amazon has been looking for characters that match the description of Kratos, Atreus, and other characters from the game.
Alongside the casting news, Richtman’s report also notes that Amazon could be looking for a character that resembles Odin, who didn’t appear in God of War until the game’s sequel. Atreus’ actor, according to the report, will also only be a regular for one season, potentially suggesting that they could be recasting the character in the future.
The road to God of War’s live-action series beginning filming has been a long one. Originally announced in 2022, the series was originally being written by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, with Rafe Judkins serving as showrunner to the series. In 2024, however, it was reported that all three had left the project after Sony and Amazon both reportedly wanted to go in a different direction.
After the exodus of the three, creator Ronald D. Moore was brought in to serve as the series’ lead writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Moore is a prominent sci-fi creator, dating back to his time as a writer on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager. After Star Trek, Moore went on to develop and co-develop several television shows, including Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.
Cory Barlog, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Hermen Hulst, and Roy Lee have remained on the series to executive produce.
God of War is a PlayStation action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studios. The show will follow Kratos, the God of War, who, “after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard,” Amazon’s description reads.
