Two Game of Thrones spin-offs at HBO, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon, have been renewed for additional seasons.

What do we know about Game of Thrones’ HBO future after renewals?

Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, announced the renewals to the Game of Thrones franchise. Both shows air on HBO and are available to stream on HBO Max.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been renewed for Season 2 ahead of its first season debut. Season 1 premieres Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Season 2 will debut in 2027.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place a century before the events of Game of Thrones. It follows an unlikely duo — a courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his small squire, Egg. “Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends,” the HBO synopsis reads.

Peter Claffey stars as Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell plays Egg. Season 1’s ensemble includes Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, Danny Webb, Sam Spruell, Shaun Thomas, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Tanzyn Crawford, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Daniel Monks.

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker are the co-creators of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The series adapts the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas.

Meanwhile, House of the Dragon has been renewed for Season 4 ahead of its third season debut. Season 3 is set to air in the summer of 2026, and Season 4 will debut in 2028.

House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Based on Martin’s Fire & Blood series, House of the Dragon depicts the rise and fall of House Targaryen. Martin and Ryan Condal co-created House of the Dragon.

Season 3’s cast features Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, James Norton, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim.
