Fresh reports have emerged that Man United might qualify for the next round of the Carabao Cup as opposed to Grimsby Town who won the fixture.

In a shocking turn of events Man United fans have received a glimmer of hope which will indicate that their side could still qualify for the next round of the Carabao Cup even after suffering defeat in the hands of Grimsby Town.

Grimsby Town have been fined by the EFL for fielding an ineligible player in their Carabao Cup second-round upset against Manchester United.

The club registered Clarke Oduor one minute past the deadline, an error they reported themselves, prompting an investigation.

The EFL confirmed the breach but ruled that a financial penalty — rather than disqualification — was the appropriate punishment, citing previous cases in the competition.

An EFL statement explained: “Following a thorough review of all available evidence, and in line with previous rulings on Carabao Cup breaches, the Board decided that a fine was the correct outcome.”

It remains unclear if Manchester United will push for further clarification or appeal the ruling, though the case has officially been closed and Grimsby’s progression into the third round confirmed.

On the pitch, Grimsby Town had initially led by two goals after errors from goalkeeper Andre Onana, but Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire struck to drag the match level.

The contest went straight to penalties, where Mbeumo rattled the crossbar with his effort, sealing United’s elimination and Grimsby’s advancement.
