A familiar DCU character from Superman is reportedly joining HBO Max’s Gorilla Grodd TV show. The People v. Gorilla Grodd is an eight-episode comedy mockumentary centered on the telepathic ape and Jimmy Olsen.
Metamorpho, played by Anthony Carrigan in the David Corenswet-led DCU film, is joining the growing ensemble of the Gorilla Grodd show, Murphy’s Multiverse reports. Carrigan’s Metamorpho was last seen in Superman, where Lex Luthor imprisoned him. However, he helps Superman escape from a pocket-dimension prison before joining the Justice Gang.
DC Studios has not confirmed the casting, so fans should wait for an official announcement.
Who else is set to appear in the Gorilla Grodd DCU TV show?
Skyler Gisondo reprises his role as Jimmy Olsen from Superman. Jimmy Tatro voices the titular ape. Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, and Wendell Pierce are returning as Daily Planet staffers Steve Lombard, Cat Grant, and Perry White, respectively. If the report is accurate, Carrigan will be another Superman actor to join the series.
Other supporting roles include, per IMDb, Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz, among others. A recent report claimed that Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi, and Isabela Merced are set to return to the documentary show.
The upcoming show is showcased as a documentary by Jimmy Olsen that investigates Grodd’s trial case to determine whether or not he was wrongly convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City.
Filming is currently underway, and recent set images and footage show the telepathic ape in a practical suit. The simian supervillain can be seen doing an a cappella number.
The series comes from Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the famous duo behind American Vandal. They also serve as showrunners, while executive producing alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran.
While the series does not have an official premiere date, Gunn has recently said that it will be released after Superman’s sequel.
