Sylvester Stallone, who is known to be a Donald Trump supporter, has recently revealed that he actually never agreed to take on the “special ambassador” to Hollywood role that the president bestowed upon him. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, he said, “Well, it just happened.”
The Oscar nominee explained, “I was watching TV one night and they go, ‘So Stallone and Mel Gibson and Jon Voight will be …’ And I went, ‘What?’ I said, ‘Excuse me? Really?’” He revealed,
Because if they had asked me in the beginning, I would have said, this is not possible.
Stallone opened up about his feelings toward the appointment. When asked if he was hesitant, the actor said, “Yes, because Hollywood, I guess it’s like feudal states. They have their little kingdoms. You don’t go in and tell six studios how to do things. And Mel Gibson and Jon Voight, we’re kind of do-our-own-thing people.”
Stallone added that he told Trump, “It won’t work,” because “It’s impossible. Hollywood works, and it will evolve. It’s corporate and corporate people won’t want to hear me tell them about finance.”
Stallone was announced as a “special ambassador” along with Mel Gibson and Jon Voight in January 2025. Donald Trump himself shared the announcement on his Truth Social, declaring a “Golden Age of Hollywood” with him.

Stallone has been very open about his support for Donald Trump even before he was announced as the special ambassador. In fact, he is one of those in Hollywood who has been a frequent guest at Mar-a-Lago club. The actor’s biggest moment as a Trump supporter was at the America First Policy Institute gala in November 2024, shortly after his reelection. Stallone introduced the president-elect as a historical figure, comparing him to George Washington. He said, “We’re in the presence of a really mythical character. I love mythology. Nobody in the world could’ve pulled off what he pulled off, so I’m in awe. Guess what? We’ve got the second George Washington.”
In 2016, he openly declared, “I love Donald Trump.” The actor compared Trump to larger-than-life figures such as Babe Ruth and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Initially, he was skeptical about whether that would translate to the presidency, in an interview with Variety. After his win, Stallone, however, sent him a Rocky poster bearing a congratulatory message.
