The Failure at God School, a story by the author of The Apothecary Diaries, Natsu Hyuga, is officially getting a TV anime adaptation. The news was posted on September 17, 2026, alongside a teaser visual and the launch of an official X account for updates.
The manga is serialized in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine and has passed 1.7 million copies in cumulative sales (as per the official website). It is the series’ first official announcement of the anime, and details are still limited. Below, we cover what the series is about, why fans of Hyuga’s earlier work should take notice, and what is known about the release so far.

In this version of Japan, the government treats the supernatural like any other public matter, with ranks, training schools, and official licenses. Anyone who can work a miracle counts as a Himiko, but only the fully certified are allowed to call themselves gods.
That is a problem for Nagi, a high schooler whose family shrine has been left without a god since her grandmother’s death. Her brother is a Himiko too, but he never leaves his room, so he is hardly a reliable answer. Nagi sets out to find a god on her own, and her search could lead her into something much bigger than she planned for.
Why The Apothecary Diaries Fans Will Love This Anime

The strongest link is Natsu Hyuga herself. The author of The Apothecary Diaries, which is already one of the best modern anime, has built another story around a determined young woman who has to find her footing in a world with strict rules. Just as Maomao works her way through the palace with sharp wit, Nagi has to make her way through a system that decides who counts as a god and who does not. Both heroines start on the back foot, and both are stubborn enough to keep going anyway.
There is also the same pull of a mystery hiding behind a polite surface. The school setting and the promise of conspiracy hint at secrets waiting to surface. Where The Apothecary Diaries drew on the atmosphere of an imperial court, this story leans on shrines, gods, and tradition, and the teaser’s torii gate and autumn leaves suggest it will be just as rich to look at. If you love characters whose cleverness and grit matter more than raw power, this is one to watch.
Everything We Know About the Release

Three posts went up on the official website on September 17, 2026: the announcement itself, the creators’ comments, and the reading campaign. The site confirms that the series is being made as a television anime, and it published the teaser visual on the same day.
It also opened an official X account, @KamisamaSCH_a, and asks fans to watch for follow-up news there. The site’s copyright notice credits the anime’s production committee alongside Hyuga, Akagawara, Seikaisha, and Hakusensha.
What the announcement pages do not include is just as important. No premiere date, broadcast window, studio, staff list, or cast appears on them. That means the release schedule remains unknown for now. Until more details arrive, the official website and the official X account are the places to check for updates on the anime’s progress.
