Marvel may finally be ready to touch one of its most uncomfortable comic storylines. During a recent Q&A with fans, Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus was asked about Namor’s dynamic with the Fantastic Four in Avengers: Doomsday. He folded Shuri and the Wakandans into that mix, but one name he mentioned sets up that storyline:
And Sue’s experience in diplomatic relations with dignitaries will come in handy.
Nothing was officially confirmed, but the mention of Sue is the telling part, since fans instantly thought of Namor’s long obsession with her and the triangle involving Reed Richards. Perez also teased where her story is heading, sharing, “Sue’s arc is a very interesting one to see develop.”
He added that Sue will be one of the few characters with a personal connection to Doom, which puts her in the tricky spot of sympathizing with a friend while protecting her family. Drop Namor into that mess, and the pieces are in place.
Avengers: Doomsday May Bring Namor and Sue Storm’s Affair to the Screen
The groundwork for that infamous affair has already been laid in Doomsday. The film throws together an unusual group that includes the Wakandans, the Talokanil, and the Fantastic Four, as seen in one of the earlier teasers of the movie.
Namor and Sue Storm are likely to share multiple scenes in the desert-like setting. It lines up neatly with Perez’s comments about Sue handling diplomacy. The actors have been playing along too. Tenoch Huerta confirmed his return as Namor on Mexican late-night show La Resolana, and when a fan dressed as Reed Richards asked what went down between Namor and Sue, he simply shared, “They are the comics. You will have to see the movie.”
Earlier, the Fantastic Four cast teased the affair during a chat with Cinemablend, where Pedro Pascal shared that Vanessa Kirby brings Namor up “every single chance she gets.” She confirmed, sharing, “It does come up a lot.” Pascal also replied with a “no comment” when asked about the toxic love triangle.
Huerta has also been realistic about screen time, noting that with more than twenty characters sharing the story, everyone gets a smaller slice. That is why Doomsday feels more like a setup than a payoff, with the real fallout likely saved for Avengers: Secret Wars.
How Did Marvel Comics Explore the Love Triangle?

The infamous love triangle story started in Fantastic Four #6 in 1962, when an unhappy Sue found herself drawn to Namor, and he happily returned the feeling. From there, it curdled fast. In Fantastic Four #27, Namor kidnapped Sue and tried to force her into marriage, even after she made it clear she loved Reed.
Decades later, in issue #412, with Reed presumed dead, Namor’s pursuit turned into an assault as he tried to claim her. The main comic continuity never actually let the affair happen. Sue shot Namor down during the Frozen arc in Marvel Knights, and in Civil War #6, she stated plainly that she did not feel any special bond with him.
Alternate universes were far bolder. Grant Morrison’s Fantastic Four: 1234 leaned into her attraction; Fantastic Four: Life Story had Sue move in with him, and a 1980 issue of What If? crowned the two as rulers of Atlantis. That history is exactly why fans call it toxic. Too many of these stories treat Sue as a prize to be won rather than a hero with her own agency.
