Zachary Levi is weighing in on Disney’s upcoming live-action Tangled remake and addressing fan expectations surrounding the adaptation. Levi notably voiced the fan-favorite rogue Flynn Rider in the 2010 animated original and has now revealed his perspective on the new iteration.
Talking to ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley, Levi acknowledged that remakes and sequels don’t always work, but he is really hoping that the live-action Tangled is a hit.
Levi said, “I’m stoked for all those guys. I want everybody to succeed. I want everybody to succeed because I care very deeply about the IP and the world, and the new Flynn Rider, and we all care about that. And I want that live-action movie to be great.”
“Unfortunately, not all of the time that we remake things, whether from animated to another, or we do sequels or whatever, it doesn’t always work. And I want them to work. I want it to be beautiful. I want audiences to be like, ‘I got everything that I loved about the animated movie in that live-action movie,’” he added.
Who is starring in the live-action Tangled remake?
The cast of the upcoming live-action version of Tangled currently includes Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel, and Diego Luna as Hawthorne. Rounding out the primary cast are Caitríona Balfe as Queen Arianna, Elliot Cowan as King Frederic, and Patrick and Hugo McPherson as the Stabbington Brothers.
The musical fantasy feature is directed by Michael Gracey from a screenplay written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor.
It remains to be seen, though, if the live-action flick can live up to the animated film’s reputation. When it was released back in 2010, Tangled grossed a sweet $591.8 million on a reported production budget of $260 million, per Box Office Mojo. It even earned a Certified Fresh score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Tangled is set to be released in theaters on March 31, 2028, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
