According to a new rumor, Aubrey Plaza could return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the coming years. However, if the report is accurate, her next appearance may not happen in one of the major Avengers movies that many fans might expect.
The rumor comes from Marvel scooper @MyTimeToShineH, who recently claimed on X that a prominent female character introduced in 2024 will make her return in 2028. The social post featured an image of a hooded skeleton adorned with a green serpent headdress, clearly pointing toward Plaza’s character, Rio Vidal, from Agatha All Along.

Rio Vidal was revealed as the physical embodiment of Death, a cosmic entity intrinsically tied to magical and mortal realms. A reported 2028 return is notable because Marvel Studios currently has no Avengers installment scheduled for that calendar year.
Instead, the studio’s 2028 theatrical lineup features the rebooted X-Men on May 5, 2028, Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider on July 28, 2028, and Black Panther 3 on December 15, 2028.
Death’s rumored return could open a new chapter in the MCU
If the report is accurate, Plaza’s return could give Marvel more room to explore its supernatural side after Agatha All Along. Death could fit naturally into the world of Ghost Rider, which would allow the MCU to explore more stories involving the afterlife, demons, and other supernatural forces.
There are also other possible ways Marvel could use the character. Death could appear in the MCU’s upcoming X-Men story or become part of a story involving Wakanda and its connection to the afterlife.
For now, however, none of these possibilities have been confirmed by Marvel Studios. The only information pointing to Plaza’s return is the above 2028 rumor.
If Aubrey Plaza does return as Death, the character could become an important part of the MCU’s supernatural stories.
