Seven years after it rewrote the box office, Avengers: Endgame is heading back to theaters, and it is coming back bigger. The re-release has an official new title, Avengers: Endgame Encore, and a September 25, 2026, date. Now it has a runtime too, courtesy of an AMC Theatres listing.
The movie is 185 minutes long, or three hours and five minutes, which is four minutes longer than the 181-minute cut audiences sat through in 2019. It makes Encore the longest movie Marvel Studios has ever released. For anyone counting down the days to Avengers: Doomsday, you can expect a shorter movie than this.
The upcoming movie in the Multiverse Saga is currently sitting at 165 minutes, or two hours and 45 minutes. Even with a multiverse to unravel and a cast that reads like a convention lineup, Doomsday finishes 20 minutes behind a seven-year-old movie. So what exactly are those four extra minutes of Encore?
Why Avengers: Endgame Encore Is Longer Than Its Original Run
Disney laid out the shape of Avengers: Endgame Encore at CineEurope back in June. According to Deadline, the movie comes with three additions, including a custom introduction, fresh footage woven into the film itself, and a special end tag. The original Endgame famously had no post-credits scene at all, so that end tag alone is a genuine first.
And that end tag is absolutely a runway to Doomsday. Co-director Joe Russo said as much at the Sands Film Festival, explaining that Marvel is re-releasing the film with footage set within the Doomsday story. He shared (via Deadline):
It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame.
He called it a “critical companion story” and an opportunity to build a bridge between the two films. There is a catch, though. That new material is tied to IMAX and Disney’s new Infinity Vision certified screens. The standard theaters are likely to show the same three hours and one minute movie you watched in 2019.
As for the official word on the runtime itself, Marvel has not published one. The 185-minute figure comes from theater listings rather than the studio, which is worth remembering.
All Avengers Movies, Ranked by Runtime

The first two Avengers films kept things tight at around 140 minutes, because they only had to juggle six heroes and one villain. Avengers: Infinity War stretched to 149 minutes once cosmic characters entered the mix. Endgame needed a full three hours to cover a five-year time jump, a heist across a decade of MCU history, and a proper goodbye for Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.

That makes Doomsday‘s 165 minutes the real talking point. It is the second-longest Avengers (third if you consider Encore separately) film ever, yet it is handling three universes, the Fox-era X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Fans were split the moment the number leaked, with plenty arguing there simply isn’t enough room. However, Doomsday‘s cut is not locked yet. The Russos have shared that they are still deep in the final edit, so the gap could narrow before December.
