Well, Helldivers, if you’re out of sync, Arrowhead Game Studios has just rolled out Patch 1.005.001 for Helldivers 2, and it’s a big 10 GB download. Now, when we saw that file size, we thought that there were some major changes or a long list of fixes.
However, if you take a look at the patch notes, it’s just one single line. That’s right, a massive hotfix like that for a single-line update. So, what’s going on here? Well, let’s take a look.

So, what’s the one-line patch 10 GB patch in Helldivers 2 all about? Well, to quote Arrowhead, “We have just fixed the crash caused by using the reload button in the Stratagem menu.” Basically, after the previous update, whenever you pressed the reload while browsing the Stratagem menu, it would instantly crash the game.
However, that wasn’t the only issue. If any of your Stratagem input buttons were rebounded to reload key, that too crashed the game. All that Patch 1.005.001 has done is fix that issue. And it was definitely a much-needed fix, as we saw plenty of Helldivers across X, Reddit, and other platforms calling out this frustrating bug. Thankfully, they can now jump back into wiping out those bugs from Magma Worlds without dealing with crashes.
Now, onto the speculation part. Ask yourself, does a basic bug fix like this really need a 10 GB update? Of course, the game’s overall size hasn’t gone up in numbers, but shouldn’t a hotfix like this be much smaller? This has sparked a lot of discussion in the community, and some believe that Arrowhead Game Studios is planting the seeds for a much bigger update with this “small” patch.

These theories aren’t some wild ones either. Let’s not forget that The Game Awards 2025 is just a week away, and Arrowhead has a history of slipping in updates before major events. Who knows, we might soon see a new boss, or that rumored fourth faction. If nothing happens, well, at least we’ve found the Python Commandos Warbond to keep us busy for a while.
Arrowhead Is Working Overtime to Fix Helldivers 2’s Reputation

It’s fair to say that the last couple of months haven’t been the best for Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead. This isn’t about the content side of things, as we’ve seen tons of updates that have given us new planets, weapons, and more to fight for. However, this is mainly about the co-op shooter’s performance issues.
Seriously, things really got out of hand with the launch of Into the Unjust in September 2025. It’s almost like the game crashed when you picked up a weapon, moved around the lobby, or even checked your requisition menu. The community started screaming about these issues and even begged for Arrowhead to stop adding updates to the game and focus on fixing things.
It now seems like Arrowhead has finally heard the playerbase and is pushing out fixes right after major updates to keep the democratic experience going. Will it be enough to fix the game’s damaged reputation? Yes, as long as the new updates don’t make Helldivers 2 a bigger buggy mess.
With that said, what would you like to see with the future updates for Helldivers 2? Let us know in the comments below.
