Nigerian rap legend and YBNL founder, Olamide Adedeji, has offered a rare glimpse into a major shift happening in his personal and professional life.
In a recent interview with Flow 98.7 FM, the award-winning artist revealed that he has reached a point where he is deliberately choosing to prioritise himself after years of pouring his energy into both his own music and the careers of many rising stars.
Olamide explained that for most of his journey, he has been constantly balancing two responsibilities, growing his brand while also elevating younger artists. According to him, that chapter has finally evolved. “Right now, I’m at the phase in my life where I’m really trying to give myself undivided attention,” he said.
For fans, the revelation carries even more weight considering Olamide’s long-standing reputation as one of Nigeria’s most influential talent builders. He acknowledged this shift openly, adding, “All my life I’ve been trying to be there for people and also trying to do my stuff. But right now, I’m really just trying to focus on myself 100 per cent.”
Through YBNL, Olamide has shaped some of the biggest names in Afrobeats, nurturing or launching careers such as Lil Kesh, Young Jonn, Pheelz, Fireboy DML, Lyta, Asake, and Adekunle Gold. Beyond the label, his co-signs have repeatedly transformed emerging acts into national sensations. Artists like Zlatan, Naira Marley, Portable, and Bella Shmurda all gained major visibility through his collaborations or endorsements.
Now, as Olamide steps into a more introspective era, he signals a new phase marked by personal growth, renewed focus, and a slower pace after years of industry leadership.
