7 Avengers: Endgame Plot Holes That Doomsday Must Address, Ranked

Spread the love

The Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn’t like to leave loose ends. Avengers: Endgame, though its complicated usage of time travel, tried its best to fix all the plot holes throughout its 3-hour runtime.

However, there were several plot holes in Endgame that made their way onto the big screen, which need fixing. From the crazy plan that Doctor Strange had in mind to the biggest debate in the MCU: Steve Rogers’ timeline, here are 7 major plot holes in Avengers: Endgame that Avengers: Doomsday must address when the time is right.

P.S.: The plot holes are also ranked on their severity.

7. Where Is Ant-Man Getting His Pym Particles From?

The stakes are already high in Avengers: Endgame. With Ant-Man having escaped thanks to a rat (more on that later), the surviving Avengers seek out Thanos, kill him, form a plan to travel to the past, and get the Infinity Stones back.

However, there’s just one slight problem. Time traveling can be done with the help of Pym Particles. Pym Particles, as stated in Avengers: Endgame, are very few in quantity (so few that they only have enough for one trip), which is… understandable.

However, these same Pym Particles are used by Ant-Man to change his size, and in the final battle of Avengers: Endgame, we see an enlarged Ant-Man rummage his way through a battlefield. How? If Pym Particles were so rare, how was Ant-Man able to use them to make himself a giant while having so few that the Avengers couldn’t time-travel?

The answer to that problem could be revealed by Doctor Doom, being a mad genius, could have perfected the creation of the Pym Particle, and that’s why they were quite common in the Sacred Timeline. However, these Pym Particles were less in quantity than Ant-Man, but were actually quite prominent.

6. How Did Steve Rogers Return the Tesseract Intact?

It was pretty well established that the Tesseract (which was the core MacGuffin in The Avengers) contained the Space Stone. For the Avengers to use it, it is pretty standard logic that they would have to break the Tesseract to retrieve the stone.

However, when Steve Rogers returns the Space Stone to S.H.I.E.L.D. in 1970, the corporation finds the Tesseract, and not just a singular Space Stone. So… how did Steve Rogers put the Space Stone back into the Tesseract while returning it to S.H.I.E.L.D.?

There’s another popular rumor that Steve Rogers simply dropped the Space Stone at S.H.I.E.L.D. instead of the Tesseract, creating a new timeline entirely. But on the other hand, Doctor Doom could reveal how the whole thing came out to be.

Doctor Doom often seeks the Power Cosmic and thus knows a lot about the Infinity Stones. In Avengers: Doomsday, he could reveal that the Stones are sentient or have self-correcting energy. Thus, the Space Stone could have turned into the Tesseract for S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents to find because it was as per the Sacred Timeline.

5. Carol Denvers Was Very Lucky to Find Tony Stark and Nebula

Following the battle on Titan, Nebula and Tony Stark are the sole survivors after Thanos’ Snap in Avengers: Infinity War. Commandeering Peter Quill’s spaceship (which had no fuel or comms and was depleting oxygen), Tony Stark and Nebula wait it out until Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, rescues them.

Donning our physics hats, we would like to state that space… is infinite. The possibility of Captain Marvel “accidentally” happening upon a stranded spaceship containing Tony Stark and Nebula is less than one in 14 million.

Some wise people call it “plot protection”; however, we think that this “plot protection trope” can be avoided by Doctor Doom. Doctor Doom knows about the “Cosmic Beacons” (which were briefly mentioned in Eternals).

Even in the post-credit scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the Ten Rings were shown to transmit a signal into deep space. Therefore, Doctor Doom could travel to Earth-616 using these “Cosmic Beacons” and also help explain to the audience how Captain Marvel found Tony Stark and Nebula trapped in a stranded spaceship.

4. Thanos Brought His Entire Army via a Single Vial

A still from Avengers: Endgame | Credits: Marvel Studios

In Avengers: Endgame, it was established that a single vial of Pym Particle is enough to make one person travel backwards or forwards in time. However, the 2014 Thanos travels to the 2023 timeline using a single vial of Pym Particle via the Quantum Realm.

Not just Thanos brings a city-sized warship and thousands of Outriders through the Quantum Realm while only using a single vial of Pym Particle.

This plot hole can be explained by Doctor Doom and the concept of ‘Incursions’. Doctor Doom could reveal that Thanos’ 2023 entry was a “micro-incursion,” and the massive army created a tear in the Multiverse. This would also explain why the Multiverse is so unstable and eventually how Doctor Doom could have his own Incursion on Earth-616.

3. Doctor Strange’s One in 14 Million Plan Was Insane

A still from Avengers: Infinity War | Credits: Marvel Studios

We all doubted him in Avengers: Infinity War when Doctor Strange revealed that there is only one possibility out of 14,000,605 futures wherein they win. He goes on to give Thanos the Time Stone and asks him to spare Iron Man’s life.

The next set of events that happened was thought to be within Doctor Strange’s one in 14 million possibilities. In Avengers: Endgame, Ant-Man was in the quantum world when a rat pushed the buttons required for Ant-Man to get released from his quantum jail.

This domino effect leads to the Avengers’ eventual victory. However, Doctor Strange’s batshit crazy plan depended on a rodent, making a particular set of paw movements that would free Scott Lang, and the eventual defeat of Thanos!

However, Doctor Strange’s confidence and trust in a rodent making his pawprints on the button could be explained by Doctor Doom, that the gamble wasn’t about the “One Outcome”, rather it was a gamble for the birth of a particular person (like Doom or a new Avenger).

This shifts the narrative from one “lucky” rat to a calculated multiversal gambit, evening out the odds.

2. Why Is Gamora’s Variant Still Alive?

A still from Avengers: Endgame | Credits: Marvel Studios

For the people who had forgotten, Star-Lord’s Gamora dies in Avengers: Infinity War when Thanos throws her off a cliff on Vormir for the Soul Stone. However, alongside the 2014 Thanos, a 2014 variant of Gamora also shows up, who eventually joins the heroes’ side at the end.

However, when Thanos and his army are turned to dust, Gamora remains, though being a variant from the same timeline as the antagonist Thanos. Why? Because Peter Quill needed his closure?

In Loki, it has been revealed that the TVA (Time Variance Authority) has been charged with “pruning” any inconsistencies within a timeline. Therefore, they should have ‘pruned’ Gamora.

Doctor Doom could potentially explain this lapse in judgment by stating that 2014 Gamora was the glitch that began the decay of Reality 616, paving the way for Doom’s incursion.

1. The Steve Rogers Timeline Mystery

A still from Avengers: Endgame | Credits: Marvel Studios

The most debatable part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Steve Rogers’ timeline during and after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Choosing to stay with Peggy Carter during the finale of Endgame, Steve Rogers allegedly created a new timeline.

On the other hand, he returned as an old man and passed on his shield to Falcon (Sam Wilson). The first problem with this theory is that if Steve Rogers were sitting on that bench, how did he get back on that bench without using the time travel machine?

The second question it raises is that if Steve Rogers chose to remain with Peggy Carter, he probably saw HYDRA infiltrating SHIELD, Bucky Barnes killing Tony Stark’s parents, and more.

A popular fan theory is that Tony Stark from that timeline became Doom-Stark because of an instability brought by two Steve Rogers. Therefore, chasing Steve Rogers back to Earth-616, the ending of Avengers: Endgame could create an origin story for Doctor Doom instead of a simple loophole that Marvel forgot to fix.
